This Friday 18th September is Mick Dolan’s Memorial Concert  in aid of Help Musicians UK and Macmillan Cancer Support.

It will feature many singers and musicians that Mick worked with. This charity concert includes Steve GibbonsSteve Ashley,  Keith Donnelly, John Richards, Phil Capaldi, Kate Gee, Red Shoes, Patsy Gamble, NIgel Mazlyn Jones, and more.

I’m excited to be reuniting with some former members of my band for a few songs! ..namely Phil Beer (from Show of Hands), Mick Candler (drums), Gareth Sampson (bass guitar), and John Broomhall (keyboards)- as well as Paul Burgess and Dik Cadbury Box Office details are below and I do hope you can support this event .  The Dolan Brothers CD has been re-released for the occasion and available at the concert.

Really enjoyed the recent concert with Mike Silver at Upwood near Huntingdon – supported by the excellent trio Cup O’Joe on tour from N Ireland (Young Folk Award finalists). Upwood had a wonderful friendly audience! Also just back from celebrating Mike’s 70th at an amazing party/concert in Cornwall. Now I’m really looking forward to gigging with Mike again at The Red Lion in Birmingham on 30th Sept, and Porkie’s at Poynton on 2nd October.

This coming weekend is the Stroud Folk Festival 18-20 Sept (it was moved back a week after we’d set the date for the Mick Dolan concert). There’s a great concert line-up on Saturday with the New Rope String Band, Steve Tilston, Lisbee Stainton, and Hattie Briggs. On Friday is THE GLOUCESTERSHIRE BLINDER – a  celebration of music and song collected in the county – and launch of the GlosTrad archive online at Lansdown Hall 7.30pm. On Saturday and Sunday there’ll also be morris sides, workshops (including one by Paul Burgess on Glos. dance tunes!), song sessions. Information and tickets from The Subscription Rooms Box Office 01453 760900   SEE YOU THERE!

Recent gigs I’ve enjoyed have been..At Shrewsbury Folk Festival…an amazing set from Sharon Shannon and band including pianist Alan Connor – Also for the first time live, singer/songwriter Jack Harris, plus 10 strings and a Goatskin (from Canada)-  plus of course Josienne Clarke & Ben Walker, and The Young ‘Uns.

At Didmarton Bluegrass Festival – Del Rey from the USA, Vera Van Heeringen, plus 3 incredible young bands Cup O’ Joe, Carrivick Sisters, and Jaywalkers. Also recently seen the very talented Katey Brooks, and Henry Bateman both at Cirencester.
