RECENT NEWS
It’s been an amazing few weeks for seeing live music.
Kathy and I saw the wonderful Canadian artist Loreena McKennit at Birmingham Town Hall on her Lost Souls Tour – beautiful songs, arrangements, with really fine musicians. We’ve loved her music for years, and it was great to meet her backstage afterwards. I’ve played her music both live and on my radio show – and my recent interview with her is still available on BBC Sounds – Sunday 24th Feb at midnight on BBC Bristol, Glos, Somerset, and Wilts.
The other day I saw Ranagri (pron: Rannergr-i) for the first time, a band with great songs, energy, and amazing harp and flute playing, and the next day, the up-and-coming duo Harbottle & Jonas.
Before that I enjoyed:
The very talented Henry Bateman and his band launching their new album;
Cara Dillon supported by Gloucestershire singer/songwriter Molly-Anne;
And Louise Mosrie a singer/songwriter over from America;
Discovery and Silver Sam at Barny’s in Stroud.

My new 30 Songs compilation album
Here are thirty songs that mean such a lot to me. They cover several decades and are taken from twelve different albums; from my first solo album Roll on Dreamer in 1978 through to Borderland in 2014.
The first CD has 15 songs that feature my band, with some very fine musicians and singers such as Phil Beer, Mick Dolan, Matt Clifford, Anthony Head, Mick Candler, Trevor Foster, John Broomhall, Pete Acock, Steve Dolan, Gareth Sampson, Steve Hutt, Tony Bennett, and Bill Zorn. Songs include – When All Is Said and Done, We Shall Not Pass, New Day, Believe in You, Catherine, Celebrate My Life, and Everybody Knows – almost all of the tracks are not available on any other CD.
The second CD is a personal acoustic selection – 15 tracks with the talents of Mike Silver, Phil Beer, Paul Burgess, Mick Dolan, Matt Clifford, Paul Metsers and Geoff March.
Throughout the recording process, I’ve been very lucky to have worked with three fine pairs of ears, Mick Dolan, John Acock, and David Pickering-Pick. I really enjoyed putting this new compilation together, and hope you’ll enjoy listening!
Available by mail order and cheque – or by phone for credit card details. Do leave your phone number – you can also email your phone number for us to call you back.
£16 inc P&P (£18 for European mainland / £19.50 for rest of the world)

FEEDBACK
Re 30 Songs. “Super CD, thank you Johnny!” – B.P in Germany
“We thoroughly enjoyed your concert at Pimperne, Dorset! Having never come across your music before, I now have several of your CDs and listen to them frequently in the car. You have a beautiful, pure, enchanting voice.
You came highly recommended by Poacher’s Moon, who I have seen many times and who did a gig here in Blandford a couple of weeks before yours. So glad they did! Really love your style of music. Now looking forward to hearing your arrangements for the poetry selections, which are beautiful and evocative, even though I have never been to your neck of the woods. Thanks again” – G.R in Dorset
“You won’t remember me, but I purchased five of your albums a few years ago online. I don’t have a history of purchasing folk music, I have spent most of the last 50 years experiencing jazz and contemporary artists on both sides of the Atlantic; from Jack Jones to Sinatra, Ornette Coleman to Charles Aznavour.
In the early 1970’s Aznavour told me that … ‘some artists are great … but you will know.’ Having listened extensively to your music now for a few years … you are clearly such an artist. You possess an emotional level of communication that crosses the footlights and touches the audience, it is a gift”. – J.F
“Thank you so much for sending me the words, I really appreciate it. As I said, the book “ Forest and Vale and High Blue Hill”, means a great deal to me, as does the CD. “Cotswold lad” is a particular favourite, commited to memory, as is “This Night The Stars”. – J.D
