LATEST NEWS

I have some exciting concerts coming up in next two months..details are in the Concerts section.

There are solo concerts at Shrewsbury on Sat 10th Sept for charity

Lingfield, near East Grinstead on Friday 14th Oct,

and Aberystwyth Arts Centre on Wed 19th October.

plus

2 with Mike Silver – on Sat 3rd Sept at Ascott under Wychwood, and Sat 24th Sept at Tettenhall

A rare reunion gig with Phil Beer (from Show of Hands) on 26th Sept at Nettlebed Folk Club

Also, on Fri 7th October, please do come and support me in the atmospheric chapel at The Convent nr Stroud – where every concert is filmed and broadcast live on the internet via netgig. Come and be part of the audience!

A new Christmas album will be recorded next month in time for the All On A Winter’s Night tour with Paul Burgess and Dik Cadbury.

We’ll be playing in Oxfordshire, Somerset (twice) , Hampshire, Staffordshire, Derbyshire,

And Gloucestershire (twice)

All the Christmas tour details are listed below….so do hope you can join us!

Recent gigs I’ve really enjoyed have been –

Zervas & Pepper at The Convent –

Cheltenham band Harper’s Ferry, Anna Corcoran, and Robert Vincent —at the Kings Head in Cirencester

The John Langan Band, and Hot Feet  at Smugglers Trail Festival on Minchinhampton Common

The young Stroud singer/songwriter Sophronie at Subscription Rooms Café in Stroud,

The Allison Lupton Band from Canada – featuring the amazing fiddle player Shane Cook – also in Stroud.

Then, at the Village Pump Folk Festival in Wiltshire, I saw young Scottish band BarluathHannah Sanders with Ben Savage, two other great duos Miranda Sykes & Rex Preston, and O’Hooley & Tidow, plus those pirates from the North West- Mark Radcliffe’s Galleon Blast featuring Nick Mitchell, the oldest living cabin boy in Cheshire!

Early in August, the incredible Alash Ensemble ( a trio from Tuva nr. Mongolia)

Played at a totally packed Prince Albert in Stroud – we all marvelled at their traditional throat–singing, songs and instruments.

And just last weekend, The Unsung Roots (Seth Bye & Katie Griffin ) did a fine set at Barny’s in Stroud, complete with their new EP.

What a summer it has been for sport  – in July there was the weekend of Sat 9/Sun 10, followed by Wimbledon and Davis Cup tennis, and then the Tour de France,

And this month of course it has been the greatest show on earth –  the Olympics!

Some very sad news – at the Village Pump Festival, Julian Littman (of Steeleye Span, Charlie Dore) told me of the loss of Pete Zorn back in April.

He was a multi-instrumentalist and a member of The Arizona Smoke Revue, The Albion Band, Richard Thompson’s band, and more recently Steeleye Span.

He also worked with both Gerry Rafferty and Barbara Dixon. He played soprano saxophone on my Reach Out For You track on the Force of the River album,  plus percussion on the title track. A really sad loss.
