Recently I had a great time at these clubs and concerts – The  Saltcellar Folk Club in BRISTOL (along with Jim Reynolds, James Slater, Bernard Hoskin, Keith Hyett, and many great floor singers!),  Folk in the Foyer at EVESHAM Arts Centre (along with excellent support set from Colin Pitts) , and at St James Church on GUERNSEY with Mike Silver on the 30th April to celebrate Andrew Warry’s 70th birthday! So a big thank you to all the organisers and to all those who supported these gigs.

Also we have just had an excellent Songwriting Weekend in Stroud – with students working very hard to produce some very good songs. So a personal thank you to Sue Freck for sharing her house, to Sue Edwards for all the food as well as being a student, and to Karina, Genevieve, Joe, Geoff, Dave S, and Dave D for all your creativity.

The Festival Players summer tour of Shakespeare’s Hamlet has just started with mainly outdoor performances in Belgium, Netherlands, Norway and all over England, Scotland, and Wales. It is directed by Michael Dyer and includes my music  – for full tour details see website for a date near you.

Recent gigs I have seen singer/songwriter Daria Kulesh, local singer/guitarist Colin Sillence with great back up from Robert Holmes and Richard Lloyd. Then last night in Cheltenham I enjoyed Glos. band Harper’s Ferry, along with 2 fine acoustic duos Two Ways Home, and Gypsyfingers.

Stroud Americana Festival is coming up on the first weekend of June  – well worth going along to see on Friday and  Saturday Brooks Williams (USA), Hannah Johnson & The Broken Hearts, Adam Sweet, Sons of the Delta, Verlin & Brandt (USA), Silurian – then on Sunday – Russell Joslin , The Ponderosa, and the excellent Kevin Brown Trio – The Subscription Rooms, Prince Albert, and Black Book Cafe in Stroud Box Office tel no. 01453 760900.

Thank you for your excellent gig at the Saltcellar Folk Club. We loved your music and are still enjoying your CD with the Winding Stair song. – L.B in Bristol

Really enjoyed your performance tonight in Bristol. I googled  ‘Roll on Dreamer’ and to my amazement there was an LP on e-bay being sold in Weston Super Mare for a fiver. I went down and collected it today and have just played it. Sleeve and record surface are in great condition and it sounded super.

It must have been sold at one of your concerts as you have written “To Lucie and Dominic, with Best Wishes, J Coppin” on the rear of the sleeve.

While exploring the sleeve inner hoping to find a sheet of lyrics the left half of a torn concert ticket fell out  which deciphered says “Tryclops Ltd in Conjunction with Cheltenham News present an Evening of Johnny … and Guest ….Playing Songs of Gloucestershire ….. College of St Paul’s & St Mary’s …..Friday 30th October …Admission £4 “. Does this jog any distant memories ?

Anyway, I must say your first album stands the test of time and its great to have the original LP together with an interesting bit of history – but I have to apologise for not adding to your sale of CD’s…   – J.F in Bristol

I have been listening to your wonderful music for many years, and I do thank you for introducing me to so many wonderful Gloucestershire poets, and giving me a love for Laurie Lee and Cider with Rosie. You have been a thread running through my musical journey!

So, I would love to receive your email newsletter, please, and hope I may be able to attend another concert. – J.C

I cannot thank you both enough for your faultless performance in Guernsey. You have no idea how many people enjoyed the evening. You were both superb and provided the mix I thought would suit the taste and age of the audience. From our point of view it was a raging success. – A.W & J.W on Guernsey

i listened to the Borderland CD tonight in the car and got to the song about Belgium……my father was lost at Arnhem when i was 3 months old. Lydia my daughter wrote a song after our family visit to Kleve cemetery. Love the rest of it and now going to look up the catalogue. – A.P on Guernsey

Thank you for your superb contribution to our Le Jeuss Re-union week, you were just brilliant. Everyone was “singing” your praises, we could not have wished for a better Guitar Tutor. You just fit in perfectly to our little family type event. Your preparation and content were spot on and we all came away with some of your inspirational musical magic. Not to mention a brilliant finish to our Tutors concert. – S.G

Feedback from The Songwriting Weekend….

Yes I really enjoyed  the weekend, thanks for all your help, you are the Master! What a really great bunch of people and such a perfect setting – D.D in Bucks

Thanks Johnny, and yes, a most productive weekend was had by all. Just having the opportunity to share views with other songwriters,

relax in a lovely environment and concentrate entirely on producing songs, with guidance and new ideas is a tremendous pleasure. K.G in Glos.

Thanks again for all your help and encouragement and for arranging yet another very enjoyable weekend. – G.B in Glos.
